Recently, we introduced you to the Curado BFS XG multiplier reel, and before we knew it, Shimano is coming out with another very interesting new product from the BFS (Bait Finesse System) category – the SLX BFS XG multiplier reel. The SLX series in the Shimano brand hierarchy is positioned directly below the previously mentioned Curado series. But the question is, is the SLX really "worse" than the older Curado, or is this new product successfully competing with it?
The first thing that caught my attention the most about the new SLX model is Shimano's claim that this reel can cast lures weighing as little as one gram. For a multiplier reel to be able to cast such light lures, it is crucial that it has the lightest possible spool. It is apparent at first glance that the spool on the SLX is more lightweight than on the Curado model. This observation was confirmed after weighing both spools. I have decided to subject this reel to more thorough testing, and I am already very much looking forward to trying it out at this year's trout season opening and subsequently bringing you a review of this new product.
Shimano SLX BFS XG Left Hand is most affordable ultra-finesse baitcasting reel, joining the highly popular SLX lineup. Adjusting the brake dial moves the magnets closer (for increased braking) or further away, keeping the spool itself free of moving parts, allowing for exceptionally smooth, low-resistance spinning. Performance is elevated by the S3D spool design and Super Free Spool technology. Housed within the lightweight aluminium HAGANE Body, precision gears, bearings, and X-SHIP provide powerful, smooth winding, while the Cross Carbon Drag and Exciting Drag Sound offer enhanced control and satisfying sensory feedback when playing hard fighting fish.
